Young NYALA: OCBC's Big Mission to Encourage Indonesian Children #FUNanciallyFit Early

24 Feb 2025

Jakarta, February 24, 2025 – PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk (OCBC) is committed to building a #FUNanciallyFit Indonesian society, a generation that understands and is smart in managing finances. One of the concrete steps taken is to present Young NYALA, a financial solution specifically designed for parents with children under 17 years old to teach them to save and manage their finances wisely.

Awareness of the importance of financial literacy from an early age is increasing, in line with the aspirations of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) which targets to increase national financial literacy and inclusion, including through the National Movement for Financial Intelligence (GENCAR) program which targets an increase in financial inclusion of 3 percent every year towards a Golden Indonesia 2045 . With a good understanding of financial management from an early age, children will grow up to be individuals who are able to make wise financial decisions in the future.

Supporting this, Chinni Yanti Tjhin, Personal Banking Division Head OCBC said "OCBC believes that in order for children to be able to manage their finances from an early age, we as parents must give them the opportunity to be responsible for managing their finances independently from a young age, accompanied by parental guidance."

Every parent wants to give the 'best' for their children. However, the best is often misinterpreted as pampering children by giving a lot of material gifts excessively, without being accompanied by good mentoring. This may have a bad impact on their future. "With Young NYALA, OCBC carries a big mission to help parents introduce the concept of saving and managing finances to their children in a fun, safe, easy, and interactive way using OCBC Mobile for Children and Young NYALA debit cards. This is part of our commitment to make Indonesian people more #FUNanciallyFit," added Chinni.

Young NYALA comes with various features designed so that children can learn finance interactively, while providing full control for parents. With the Yang Paham (Capability to Understand) feature, children can learn finance through easy-to-understand educational videos and articles. Through the Yang Pintar (Capability to transact) feature, children can start saving and make daily transactions independently. Meanwhile, the Yang Aman (Capability to control) feature allows parents to keep an eye on their children's transactions through OCBC Mobile, including setting a daily transaction limit of up to IDR 2 million and receiving notifications every time a child makes a transaction.

Starting in early 2025, children aged 10 to 17 years old will be able to have their own OCBC Mobile, which allows them to save, check balances, transfer funds, pay with QRIS, top up e-wallets, and buy mobile data and credit packages. Through parents’ OCBC Mobile, customers also have full control over their children's transactions for 24 hours, including checking balances, setting transaction limits, blocking or unlocking children's access to OCBC Mobile, and receiving notifications every time their child makes a transaction.

Parents who want to open a Young NYALA account for their child can do so easily through two channels. First, through OCBC Mobile parents and through the nearest OCBC branch by bringing documents such as parents' ID and Family Cards.

Introducing Disney-themed debit cards

As part of OCBC’s ongoing collaboration with Disney across Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, OCBC Young Nyala is now offering branded card designs for customers in Indonesia. Young Nyala Debit Card customers will be able to select designs of fan-favourite Disney and Marvel characters.

Chinni added, “With the new Disney and Marvel-themed designs, we hope that Young Nyala OCBC will inspire families to begin financial management for future generations in a FUN way.”
