Jakarta, Februari 20, 2024 – OCBC Syariah continues to reaffirm its commitment to uphold the trust of customers by distributing zakat funds throughout 2023 to the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia. The distributed funds represent zakat on the profit-sharing from customer savings deposited at OCBC Syariah, and this year, they are allocated through the Micro Zakat Bank (BZM) program from Baznas.
Through this BZM Program, the zakat will be distributed to mustahik (those entitled to receive zakat) who are micro-entrepreneurs, in the form of additional capital financing and business development. This is also part of OCBC Syariah's commitment to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which, on this occasion, is allocated to community-based micro-businesses in the Jatinegara area, East Jakarta
“This collaboration with Baznas represents a positive beginning in affirming OCBC Syariah's commitment to continuously uphold the trust of customers regarding zakat funds from profit-sharing. Furthermore, we feel it is necessary to support micro-entrepreneurs who are currently facing challenges in terms of capital and business facilities, so that they can develop their businesses to become more robust and larger,” Head of OCBC Sharia Business Unit Mahendra Koesumawardhana.
The implementation of this collaboration is also based on a shared mission, which is to prosper and empower the Indonesian community. In this regard, OCBC Syariah acts as a sharia financial institution performing the baitulmaal function, where the collected zakat, infak, and sadaqah funds will be distributed through Baznas, a trusted institution that has various programs for the economic empowerment of mustahik.
Director of Individual Fundraising at BAZNAS RI, Fitriansyah Agus Setiawan, expressed gratitude for OCBC Syariah's trust in channeling its customers' zakat funds through BAZNAS RI. “We warmly welcome the trust given by OCBC Syariah and appreciate the partnership that has been established so far. This mandate will certainly be delivered to those who are entitled to receive it, accurately targeted in accordance with the principles of 3A (Shari'ah Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, and National Integrity),” he said.
“God willing, this collaboration will also mark the beginning in 2024 for more collaborations in providing payment services for Zakat Profesi, Infaq, and Shodaqoh, or ZIS, through OCBC Syariah's channels,” concluded Mahendra.
